background | UI Designer

I started as a Mid-level UI designer in the IDVL (IDentify Verify Liveness) team, where we worked on a biometrics feature for the user’s profile’s security. We added facial and fingerprint biometrics and enabled this feature for both new and existing users. Working closely with the UX designer and the developers to ensure that this feature was added without any glitches and that the users understand the updates.
With the objective of keeping our client’s money & assets safe, we added biometrics (fingerprint and Facial recognition) to ensure the safety of the user’s private and business profiles. My role was to research, design, and test all UIs related to the project, including creating personas, wireframes. I collaborated with design, the developers, and product development to launch this project successfully.
Researching tasks as we’re given per sprint ( we have a 2-week sprint ) to especially solve business problems from business, to find user-friendly UI solutions. Worked on the illustration auditing, redesign, and animations for the feature to help guide the user as they are going through a new flow.
There were challenges of understanding how the business works, ensuring that the new solution works with users existing behavior as we make updates where applicable; also be able to come up with the best solution using Design Thinking, I learned from my experiences from working closely with my fellow designer & senior designers.
DISCOVERY PHASE: User Testing
After distilling the wireframes, I used UT report templates from the UX designer and observe to take feedback notes. Working with the UX designer who created the wireframes, we used the feedback from UT to create the best experience for the user.
DISCOVERY PHASE: Competitive research
After the BA meeting discussion, I research and go on competitive banks sites to see what need to definitely add and learn from and improve, also would go to Dribbble and Pinterest for component research, noun project and freepik for illustration research using Sketch and illustrator to find the best solution for your client and the best solution in the business. Working with the UX designer and other UI designers, we use the screenshot or images from the research and find the best solutions.
DESIGN PHASE: Wireframing

After creating the UI components, I created low-fidelity wireframes using Sketch to iterate through design options quickly. Working with the UX designer, we used the wireframes to discuss product strategy.
DESIGN PHASE: UI design

After going through the wireframes, I design the UI screens from the wireframed screens, researching UI component design using Sketch to iterate through design options quickly with the opportunity to make changes and tweaks. Working with the UX designer and the developers, we used the UI screens to discuss product strategy.
DESIGN PHASE: Prototype
After the UI components are created and approved, seeing is believing, the user was not struggling to click through the medium-fidelity prototypes using Sketch and InVision to iterate through design options quickly. They were also used in the UserTesting with 8 users to gauge between two final design options. Working with the product manager and The design team, we used the wireframes to discuss product strategy.
Summary
My learnings?
Creating the same experience for different platforms (App and Web) required unique research for each platform because they do not operate the same but may serve the same purpose. UI makes a big impact on the user’s experience by adding the right level of delight when the user might have otherwise been frustrated. Helping guide the users along with a new user journey flow. I learned about the process of creating and updating a banks’ website and all the logistics that go into approval from the relevant departments and stakeholders. Web development is both complex and fun!
Were there any insights from user research that surprised you?
How familiar most of our users are with the facial biometrics feature and they did not struggle to follow throughout their journey.
What was the most challenging thing about this project and how did you overcome it?
Creating a seamless and consistent flow and experience throughout the different digital platforms.
What quantitative data can you show to measure the success of the product? A decrease in scams and fraud cases.
What part of the design process did you particularly enjoy?
I really enjoyed designing the style guides, Illustrations, and creating user flows and scenarios.
